Frequently asked questions

How does the photo scan work?

Take a photo of your meal and Caly sends it to an AI model that recognizes the food and estimates the calories, protein, carbs, and fat for the portion it sees. You get the numbers back in a few seconds and can add the meal to your day with one tap. It works best with a clear, well-lit photo taken from above the plate.

How accurate are the calorie estimates?

Caly's numbers are AI-generated estimates, not lab measurements. Accuracy depends on photo quality, how the food is presented, and portion size — a mixed bowl or a dish with hidden oils and sauces is harder to judge than a simple plate. Treat the numbers as a helpful, consistent guide rather than an exact count. You can always adjust servings or fix an item after scanning.

What if the food is wrong or the portion is off?

Open the meal after scanning and tap to edit it. You can change the serving size, correct an item, or remove it entirely. Your log is always yours to adjust.

Can I log without taking a photo?

Yes. Caly has three ways to log: snap a photo, scan a barcode on a packaged product, or just describe what you ate in words ("two eggs and toast") and let AI estimate it. Use whichever is easiest in the moment.

Where does the barcode data come from?

When you scan a barcode, Caly looks the product up in the Open Food Facts database, a large open catalog of packaged foods. If a product isn't in the database yet, try the photo or describe options instead.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Caly doesn't ask for your name, email, or a password. When you first open the app, an anonymous profile is created automatically so your goals and history stay in sync — but it isn't tied to your real-world identity.

How are my calorie and macro goals calculated?

During setup you tell Caly your goal, age, height, weight, activity level, and a few preferences. From that, Caly calculates your daily calorie and macro targets using the well-established Mifflin-St Jeor formula, then adjusts for whether you want to lose, maintain, or gain. You can review and edit your goals any time in Settings.

Are my meal photos stored anywhere?

Your photos are used only to estimate nutrition. When you scan, the image is sent for AI analysis and is not stored on our servers afterward. A copy is kept on your device so you can see it next to the meal in your history, and it's removed when you delete the app. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How do subscriptions and billing work?

Caly offers an auto-renewing subscription that unlocks the full experience. Payment is charged to your Apple ID, and the subscription renews automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel any time in your iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions.

How do I restore a purchase?

If you reinstalled Caly or got a new phone, open the app and use the "Restore Purchases" option on the paywall or in Settings. Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID, so it will come back as long as you're signed in with the same account.

How do I delete my data?

Your profile, meal history, and photos are stored on your device and are removed when you delete the app. If you'd also like us to delete the anonymous data associated with your installation, email us at support@codexia.app and we'll take care of it.
