Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Caly ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use the app. Caly is operated by Codexia. Caly is an AI-powered calorie tracker: you log meals by taking a photo, scanning a barcode, or describing what you ate, and the app estimates calories and macronutrients. The app is designed to require as little personal data as possible. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal contact information to use the app.

1. Meal Photos & AI Analysis

When you scan a meal with your camera, or upload a photo, the image is used only to estimate its nutrition. This is the most important thing to understand about Caly and your privacy:

  • The photo is sent to our server and then to our AI provider (OpenAI) for real-time analysis. The AI identifies the food and returns estimated calories and macronutrients.
  • Your meal photos are not stored on our servers. The image is analyzed and discarded — we do not keep a copy of it, and we do not use your photos to train any model.
  • A copy of the photo is kept on your device so you can see it next to the meal in your history. It is removed when you delete the app.
  • If you describe a meal in text instead of photographing it, that text description is sent for the same kind of AI analysis and is likewise not retained after the estimate is returned.

Camera access is used solely to scan meals and barcodes. You can review or revoke camera permission at any time in your device's Settings.

2. Information We Process

Caly works with an anonymous account that is created automatically on your device. We do not collect information that personally identifies you. The app processes the following limited data:

  • Anonymous identifier — an anonymous account ID created on your device, used to operate the app, keep your data in sync, and deliver your subscription. It is not linked to your real-world identity. Basic technical details such as your app version, language, platform, or time zone may be processed to run the service.
  • Health and profile information you provide — during setup you enter details used to calculate your goals: your goal (lose, maintain, gain), gender, date of birth, height, weight, target weight, activity level, workouts per week, and diet preferences. This is used to compute your personalized calorie and macro targets.
  • Your meal and nutrition data — the meals you log, including the food names, estimated calories and macronutrients, meal type, and date. Barcode numbers you scan are used only to look up product nutrition.
  • Progress data — your daily and weekly totals, so you can track your intake over time.
  • Usage analytics — a small number of anonymous events about how the app is used are sent to our analytics provider so we can understand what works and improve the app (for example, completing setup and reaching your goal screen). These events are tied only to your anonymous identifier, not to your real-world identity.
  • Subscription status — whether you have an active subscription and which plan, so the app can unlock premium features. Purchases are processed by Apple and our subscription provider; we do not receive or store your payment card details.
  • Push notification token — if you enable notifications, a device token is used to deliver support replies. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

3. Where Your Data Is Stored

Your profile, meal history, and meal photos are stored on your device. To keep your data available across sessions, your profile and meal entries (food names and nutrition values — not your photos) are also synced to our secure server under your anonymous account. Deleting the app removes the data stored on your device.

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Caly uses the following third-party services, which process limited data on our behalf under their own privacy policies:

  • OpenAI — receives meal photos and text descriptions to perform the AI nutrition analysis. Images are processed for the analysis and not retained by Caly afterward.
  • Open Food Facts — receives the barcode number you scan to return that product's nutrition information.
  • Google Firebase (Authentication, Analytics, Cloud Messaging) — creates your anonymous account, processes anonymous usage analytics, and delivers support notifications.
  • RevenueCat — subscription and purchase management. RevenueCat processes an anonymous purchase identifier and subscription events to manage your entitlement; it does not receive your name or payment card details.
  • Apple — App Store purchases and subscription billing. We do not receive or store your payment details.
  • Hark — powers the in-app support chat so we can respond to your questions.

5. Advertising & Tracking

Caly does not show ads and does not track you across other apps or websites. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), and we do not sell your data.

6. Support Messages

If you contact us through the in-app support feature or by email, we process the messages you send and your anonymous user ID so we can reply and provide support. Please do not include sensitive personal information in your messages.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

We keep the limited data described above only as long as needed to operate the app and your subscription. Your settings, profile, meal history, and photos are stored on your device and are removed when you delete the app. If you would like us to delete the anonymous account and any synced data associated with your installation, contact us at the email below and we will assist you.

8. Health Data Disclaimer

The health-related details you enter (such as weight, height, and goals) are used only to calculate your nutrition targets within the app. Caly is a general wellness and tracking tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. See our Terms of Service for the full disclaimer.

9. Children's Privacy

Caly is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

10. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data, or to object to certain processing. Since Caly does not collect personal identifiers, we may need additional information to locate the anonymous data tied to your installation. Contact us using the details below to make a request.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
